Suggestions for Improving the Quality of Structural Engineering Design and Documentation.
Description: Producing high quality structural design and high quality design documentation requires structural engineers to continually evaluate their in-house processes and procedures necessary to ensure they are undertaking projects as efficiently as possible.
This seminar reviews recommendations for improving the quality, safety, and efficiency of structural engineering design and design documentation while dealing with fast schedules, complex building codes, and young engineers taking on greater responsibility earlier in their careers. Also reviewed are some of the many common problems and mistakes the presenter has seen (and continues to see) over his almost 50 years of experience in the profession.
It’s much easier to prevent problems than it is to solve them. This seminar strives to help structural engineers prevent problems, and design building structures more efficiently.
About Our Speaker:
Clifford Schwinger. P.E. graduated from Lehigh University with a BSCE in 1976. He is an engineer at IMEG Corporation and has 49 years of experience designing structures. Prior to IMEG’s acquisition of The Harman Group in 2022 he was the Quality Assurance Manager at The Harman Group for 20 years. In that role he answered technical questions, established in-house design and drawing standards and performed more than 700 quality control reviews. He is now semi-retired, and his role today is primarily that of answering in-house technical questions and helping to train IMEG’s next generation of structural engineers.
Cliff serves on the AISC Committee on Manuals. He has lectured extensively nationwide on various structural engineering topics. He was awarded an AISC Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023, and he received AISC’s Steel Conference Speaker Award at the 2025 NASCC.
